Easy One Pot Orzo Bolognese

This amazing one pot orzo bolognese is seriously tasty! It packs tons of flavour and requires minimal time and effort.

For kids, spaghetti bolognese can be tricky to eat, and they might turn their nose up at a fresh tomato spaghetti. But orzo bolognese? It’s a fantastic middle ground that will please everyone! Sound good to you? Me too!

For those of you that aren’t familiar with it – orzo is actually a type of pasta! Even though it looks more similar to rice. It tastes proper yum though I promise!

I guarantee you’ll be adding this one into your regular midweek meal rotation!

One Pot Orzo Bolognese – Step by Step Picture Recipe

Here is what you will need to serve 3.

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 Garlic Clove, Finely Chopped
  • 1/2 Small Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 250g Lean Minced Beef
  • Salt
  • 390g Carton of Passata with Basil
  • Generous Splash of Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tsp Dried Italian Herbs
  • 1 x Beef Stock Pot/Cube
  • 350ml Water
  • 150g Dried Orzo Pasta
  • Freshly Grated Parmesan, To Serve (Optional)
  • Fresh Chopped Parsley, To Serve (Optional)

Essential Equipment

  • Large Frying Pan

Instructions

Heat the frying pan over a medium heat then add the oil, garlic and onion. Stir frequently and fry until softened. (About 3-4 minutes.)

Then add the minced beef to the pan and start to break it apart using a wooden spatula. While the meat is still pink, season well with salt, then continue to cook and break apart until it’s completely browned.

Next add all the remaining ingredients to the pan except for the orzo, parmesan and parsley. (So the passata, Worcestershire sauce, Italian herbs, beef stock pot and water.)

Give it a good stir then bring to the boil. Once boiling, reduce to a simmer and add in the orzo.

Stirring frequently so it doesn’t catch on the bottom, simmer for 7-10 minutes until the pasta is cooked to your liking.

Finally, give it a taste and season with more salt if needs be. Serve immediately, sprinkling over a little parmesan and chopped parsley if you like.
